DE ESL Summer Institute 2020
Please peruse this information on the ESL Summer Institute 2020 from our AC Member Dr. Caplan.
"UD is once again collaborating with Delaware DOE to offer the ESL Summer Institute, available as a credit-bearing course (LING 499/699) or a free professional-development opportunity for 40 clock hours. The institute will meet June 22, 24, 25, 29, 30, July 1, from 8:30-5:00 at the UD Paradee Center in Dover. English learners are a growing and vibrant presence in Delaware’s schools. In this year’s institute, you will join colleagues from across our state to better understand the processes of second language acquisition so as to help your ELs succeed in the classroom, develop academic language, and integrate in your schools. You will learn how to give corrective feedback, support inter-cultural communication, and promote bilingualism, and you will explore the laws and policies that apply to English learners.
For more information, please see the attached flyer or visit our website, http://sites.udel.edu/ell Delaware teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrators who would like to learn more about working with and advocating for English learners are all welcome to attend. You can register now for clock hours (PDMS Course number: #28919, sections 53659, 53660, 53661, 53662, 53663, 53664). Registration for UD credit will open on April (www.udel.edu/summer). Please do not hesitate to contact [me] Dr. Caplan if you have any questions. The course structure will be largely similar to last year, but the content and activities are always updated!"
